Though the COVID-19 pandemic’s primary risk is on our physical health, the dangerous impacts on our mental health should not be ignored.
In a time where many of us are feeling the emotional and mental effects of processing an ongoing global trauma and navigating the impacts of being isolated each other, supports for mental health care are more important than ever.
That’s why the City of Hamilton has launched a website with Hamilton Public Health and the Lynwood Charlton Centre to provide resources to the city’s youth as they navigate the impacts of this crisis on their mental and emotional wellbeing.

The city’s younger residents have had their own unique sets of challenges amid the pandemic, not the least of which the upending of their social interactions and their education at the most formative time of their lives.
The new city-launched website focuses specifically on child and youth mental health amid COVID-19, offering a variety of resources and tips for youth and families including hotlines and services, education resources, and more.
“The impact of COVID-19 on the mental and emotional well-being of families, especially children and youth, is real and concerning,” said Louise Murray-Leung, Family Engagement Lead at the Lynwood Charlton Centre.
“The best thing families can do is to reach out with any questions or concerns they have. This can lead to helpful, timely support for their child or youth, which benefits everyone in the family. The City of Hamilton’s new child and youth mental health web page is a welcome added resource providing useful tips for youth, families and caregivers and clear information about where to find help for their mental health concerns.”
