Hamilton’s first drive-thru COVID-19 testing site is now open

In a necessary new initiative to increase and expedite COVID-19 testing in Hamilton, the city’s first drive-thru testing centre is officially open this weekend, starting today, Friday April 17th.

The new drive-thru testing centre is located on the Hamilton Mountain at the Dave Andreychuk Memorial Arena, and will be open for service on weekends from Friday to Sunday, 11 am to 3 pm each day.

While the drive-thru model provides a streamlined means of testing Hamiltonians for the novel coronavirus, the testing centre is not available for just anyone looking for assessment to pull up in their vehicle; qualifying people must receive a referral from a doctor or Hamilton public health before receiving a test.

In order to receive a referral, those concerned about potential COVID-19 symptoms can first complete an online self-assessment on the Province of Ontario’s website. If that test indicates that further assessment is advised, contact your doctor, Hamilton Public Health Services, or Telehealth Ontario.

Hamilton’s other two existing testing centres, located in the city’s east and west ends at 2747 King Street East and 690 Main Street West respectively, continue to remain open for referral-based testing as well, with both having been visited by a combined 2,850 people since they opened their doors.

The current number of confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Hamilton sits at 306, with 11 deaths and 126 of the total cases – or 41% – resolved.

Stay up to date on the local status of COVID-19 on the City of Hamilton website.
