Some Hamilton doctors to start offering COVID-19 vaccine for ages 60 to 64

A number of Hamilton-area doctors in primary care settings are set to begin offering the recently approved AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to a select group of city residents as of this weekend.

As part of a provincial pilot program, the vaccine will be offered to residents in good health who are between the ages of 60 to 64 as of 2021, in locations selected by Hamilton Family Medicine partners that have been identified as being disproportionately impacted by the virus.

Inoculations are set to begin in select facilities as of Saturday, March 13th, with plans to continue expanding the program to further primary care offices as time goes on.

According to a release from the city, eligible residents will be contacted by their primary care physician directly for appointment bookings, and there are no other booking options for this pilot program.

Vaccines are available strictly by appointment only, with no primary care facilities accepting walk-ins. Additionally, there will be further options for this age group to receive a vaccine through the city’s large-scale COVID-19 vaccine clinics in the near future, if not through their physician.

The release also notes that eligible residents contacted to book an appointment will not be asked to provide a health card number, social insurance number, or credit card number, as vaccinations are provided free of charge.
