Stories from Hamilton teaches storytelling skills in the Barton neighbourhood

If you’ve ever wanted to know what it takes to spin a spellbinding story, now’s your chance to learn from the best.

Multidisciplinary artist Lisa Pijuan-Nomura, a local force of nature known for her work in theatre, visual art, and community arts, will be hosting a multi-week series of workshops at the Hamilton Public Library’s Barton branch, guiding willing participants from the neighbourhood on how to compile, craft, and present their own compelling stories.

Taking place for six consecutive Wednesday evenings beginning with October 2nd, Pijuan-Nomura will use an inspiring, collaborative, hands-on approach when guiding participants through the ins and outs of story gathering, creating, and sharing. Special guests offering their expertise through the workshop series will also include local author Gary Barwin and performance artist Tor Lukasik-Foss.

At the culmination of the workshop series on November 6th, participants will be invited to share their work on their stories in a fun and supportive Story Jam to close out the process.

Anyone who has seen Pijuan-Nomura in performance will know that this is a workshop well worth joining in on.

Stories from Hamilton: Barton Neighbourhood takes place at the Hamilton Public Library’s Barton branch on Wednesday nights from October 2nd to November 6th, 6 pm to 7:30 pm. No prior experience or training is required! More details on the workshop series and registration can be found on Facebook.
