Weekend events in Hamilton August 25-26 2018

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Look no further. We’ve found a wide range of events in Hamilton for all ages and interests to enjoy.

Here’s what’s happening in the city this weekend.

Saturday

Craftadian Market

Soak up the last bit of summer at this weekend’s Craftadian Made in Hamilton Market. This particular instalment celebrates artists and artisans from the Hamilton-Wentworth region.

The Made in Hamilton Market hosts over 70 unique vendors. This weekend’s vendors are showcasing all kinds of goods such as hand made jewelry, soaps, home décor, clothing and delectable eats.

Made in Hamilton Market takes place at McMaster Innovation Park. The event runs from 10 am to 4 pm. Adult admission is $5 and children 16 and under are free.

Winona Peach Festival

Over the last fifty years, the Winona Peach Festival has turned into an end-of-summer tradition. This festival is a celebration of community, family, good eats and Ontario’s delicious peaches.

The Peach Festival has something for all ages and interests. There’s a midway, car show, entertainment stage, art and craft vendors and plenty of food options that are sure to satisfy everyone’s dietary restrictions. Majority of the festival’s food is an ode to peaches – peach filled pies, crepes, cobblers, sundaes and many other delicious concoctions.

The Winona Peach Festival takes place at 1328 Barton Street. The festival runs from 10 am to 11 pm. Admission is free but be sure to bring your wallet to pick up some goodies!

Strange Day at the Bay

Strangewaves returns to Bayfront Park for Strange Day 2018. This event is all about bringing on the summer vibes, showcasing an assortment of unique musicians and offering the Hamilton community something a little different.

Strangewaves is devoted to showcasing bold and innovative artists to audiences across Hamilton. With a commitment to inclusivity and diversity within their programming, Strangewaves creates experiences that exist outside the mainstream.

Saturday’s event will feature nine musicians, various visual artists, different cuisines and multiple vendors. Strange Day runs from 2 pm to 11 pm and admission is free.

Hermitage Ruins Ghost Walk

Love learning about Hamilton’s ghostly history? The Hermitage Ruins ghost tour is sure to give you all of the spooky knowledge you crave.

Being in a forest surrounded by the ruins of a haunted mansion is the perfect opportunity for telling ghost stories. On the tour, you will learn about Ancaster’s famous legends, a doomed coachman, and local places for dark rituals.

The tour takes place at the Hermitage Ruins on Sulphur Springs Road. Adult tickets are $15 and are available online. This tour welcomes all ages, but be aware that some content may be considered mature. The tour is for entertainment purposes only.

Winona Peach Festival

HMCS Haida’s 75 Birthday

An incredible piece of Canadian history is turning 75! Let’s celebrate the HMCS Haida like they would’ve back in the 1940s.

Kick off the festivities with a Shore Leave party and get ready to swing dance or break into the jitterbug. There will be a noon gun firing, refreshments and plenty of fun-filled activities for the entire family to enjoy.

The birthday celebration takes place at the HMCS Haida National Historic Site, running from 10 am to 4:15 pm. Tickets are $14.60 and all ages are welcome.

Tesla Electric Festival

The Tesla Electric Festival is an all-ages gathering of commercial exhibitors, tech enthusiasts, hobbyists, science clubs, artists and students. This festival in particular celebrates the incredible technological achievements of Nikola Tesla.

This year’s festival is also a celebration of a key historical event that changed the course of Hamilton’s history. Through using the first hydro-electric power transmission to the city from Decew Falls in Thorold, Hamilton was Canada’s very first electric city.

Tesla Electric Festival takes place at the Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology. The festival runs from 11 am to 5 pm and admission is free.

Mountain Kidz Klub Free School Supplies

With the back to school season just around the corner, Hamiltonians want to make sure all children are prepared. The Mountain Kidz Klub is supplying free school supplies for kids in grades 1 through 12 to ensure that all students can have a successful start to their school year.

If your child is in need of extra school supplies, you can visit the Eastmount Community Centre from 1 – 4 pm. There will be backpacks, pens, pencil cases, binders and all of the necessities.

If you are in a position to give, school supply donations are greatly encouraged. Donations will be accepted Sundays from 1 – 4 pm, Wednesdays 11 am to 2 pm and Fridays from 11 am to 2 pm. Donations close September 7.
