Worker at Metro on the Hamilton Mountain tests positive for COVID-19

An employee working at a Metro grocery store on the Hamilton Mountain has tested positive for COVID-19, according to the company’s own COVID-19 tracker.

The employee, who is on staff at the Metro location in Fennell Plaza at Upper Gage and Fennell, last worked in the store on August 16th, and did not return to the location while waiting for test results. The location’s management got the news of the positive test on August 17th.

Out of an abundance of caution, the grocery store has been in contact with Hamilton public health, and all high-contact surfaces that the employee in questions could have or would have touched were immediately sanitized.

The store also received a full deep cleaning after closing time on August 17th and has since reopened for business as usual.

This is hardly the first incident of a grocery store employee in Hamilton testing positive for the novel coronavirus. There have also been reported cases at the No Frills at Upper Sherman and Rymal, as well as a FreshCo location just across the street from the Metro at Upper Gage and Fennell.

Currently, Hamilton has 46 known active cases of COVID-19, with an overall total of 953 confirmed cases in the city since the start of the pandemic. Of those cases, 862 are considered resolved and 45 resulted in deaths.
