Heavy snow warning still in effect for Hamilton today

After weeks of unseasonably warm weather, which included a snowless holiday season, Hamilton is finally seeing some proper winter snowfall today.

In a weather warning issued by Environment Canada for today, Saturday January 18th, Hamilton is expected to see steady, continual snowfall, resulting in roughly 15 centimetres of accumulation throughout most of the day.

Then, the lighter snowfall is expected to shift to a heavier, and potentially more hazardous, mix of rain showers and wet flurries, which could result in some icy walking and driving conditions along with a heavier accumulation of the white stuff on the ground. Make sure you do some stretches before breaking out those shovels!

Given the less-than-optimal outdoor conditions, motorists are advised to take it easy on the roads or, better yet, maybe just tuck in at home with a book or board game if travel isn’t essential.

And hey, this snow might make for a few solid shovelling trips, but Hamilton’s snowstorm today is minimal compared to the astonishing (and record-breaking) snow-pocalypse out in Eastern Newfoundland.

Continue checking the local weather forecast for updates.
