New Hamilton bakery takes over former Cake & Loaf space

One oven closes, and another opens: a new Hamilton bakery has taken over the former home of the popular Cake & Loaf in the Kirkendall neighbourhood, which closed its doors last fall. 

Batches Bake Shop is now open at 321 Dundurn Street South and is owned and operated by Kate Batchelor, Cake & Loaf’s former pastry manager who is now taking the reins on her own business venture.

The from-scratch, small-batch bakery offers up daily sweet treats from cookies to brownies to cakes to tarts and so much more in seasonally inspired flavours. 

There’s even a selection of savoury bites like scones, chicken pot pie, soups, chilli, shepherd’s pie, and beyond. 

Though Batches’ pop-up storefront launched in late 2023, the baking business has been kicking around for a while longer with Batchelor bringing her tantalizing treats to markets in the Hamilton area and offering weekly menus for home pickup. 

Batches reopens this Thursday, January 11th, so pop on over to 321 Dundurn Street South this weekend and get your first tastes!
