Ontario reports lowest number of daily COVID-19 cases in two months

Ontario has released the daily COVID-19 case counts for the province, and is reporting the lowest number of new daily cases in over two months.

Public health is reporting 1,670 COVID-19 cases in their report released on Wednesday morning, marking the least amount of new cases recorded since November 26th, which saw 1,478 cases reported.

1,670 cases is still 1,670 too many, but it marks a promising dip from the highs of over 4,000 new daily cases reported province-wide mere weeks ago, and indicates a downward trend in new cases amid lockdown measures and stay-at-home orders, which include the extended closure of schools for in-person classes.

Along with today’s case numbers, 49 new COVID-19 related deaths have also been reported, bringing the province’s entire death toll up to 5,958 since the pandemic began.

As of now, Ontario has also administered 305,330 shots of the COVID-19 vaccine since beginning the vaccination program in December, with 96,459 of those fully vaccinated with both required doses.

Hamilton itself saw 84 new confirmed COVID-19 cases among the 1,670 reported province-wide, bringing the local total of active cases to 670: a number which continues to trend downwards after hitting highs of over 1,000 active cases in the city at one time.

The city also currently has 50 active COVID-19 outbreaks, with the current largest being at Shalom Village Nursing Home with 184 total cases between residents and staff, and 17 total deaths so far.
