SpinCo Hamilton is reopening with enhanced safety measures

Following an ordeal that turned into Hamilton’s largest outbreak of COVID-19, James North fitness studio SpinCo has announced their plans to reopen their doors for classes with a whole host of new, stricter health & safety measures in place.
The spin studio posted to its Instagram last week announcing its return after weeks of closure, with intent to resume classes on November 14th with a new safety plan created in collaboration with local public health.
New safety measures SpinCo will be implementing include an intensified cleaning and sanitation regimen with peroxide-based solution, a new CleanAir Systems purifier that will filter the room’s air every 17 to 21 minutes, face masks at all times including while working out, temperature checks and pre-screenings for all patrons, and a plexiglass barrier for instructors.
SpinCo Hamilton made international news with its outbreak, which started with three confirmed cases among staff and patrons and rapidly grew to a total of 85 primary and secondary cases of COVID-19.
The outbreak was declared by public health on October 5th and officially ended October 27th with two confirmed staff cases, 52 patron cases, and at least 31 secondary cases such as family, friends, or other contacts.
SpinCo reportedly followed all of the existing public health guidelines at the time; however, that might not have been enough. Public health officials cited the higher risk of intensified spread of respiratory droplets through heavy breathing while working out, allowing COVID-19 to spread through stale air much further than 6 feet from the original infected patron.
That said, it seems SpinCo has taken these risk factors into account with their new safety measures and will undoubtedly be a welcomed return for its passionate patron base!
