Upgrades coming to Sam Lawrence Park

Public Works is looking to refresh Sam Lawrence Park and give it some much-needed upgrades.

The popular park was built in the 1950s and has not seen any major renovations since the 1990s. As Sam Lawrence Park is home to one of the best views in the city, the park remains a popular spot for both locals and tourists alike.

While fixes to guarantee safety are the top priority, cosmetic upgrades will also be made.

While it is currently unclear what all upgrades will look like, the decision has come in conjunction with the city’s plans to expand a new trail along the escarpment.

A $9,000,000 plan has been proposed to create a new trail that will connect all existing trails and parks along the escarpment. The new trail will run across wards 8, 7, 6, and 9. The city hopes to complete this extensive project over the next 20 years.

The connection across the different city trails and parks will be highly beneficial to the Mountain community and to those who visit. By connecting the trails, there is no longer the need to leave and possibly drive to get to the next trail or park. The connectivity will make things safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and dogs alike.

What are your thoughts on having a better connected trail and park system? Do you think Sam Lawrence Park is showing signs of age? Let us know in the comments.
