Weekend events in Hamilton September 1-2 2018

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Look no further. We’ve found a wide range of events in Hamilton for all ages and interests to enjoy.

Here’s what’s happening in the city this weekend.

Saturday

Yoga with Alpacas & Sheep

Fibre Friends Yoga is pleased to offer an incredible outdoor yoga experience unlike any other. At a Fibre Friends, you will participate in a yoga class amongst alpacas and sheep.

The alpacas are very calm and curious, while the sheep are very well socialized and love being around people. The outdoor setting is very peaceful; the collective humming from the alpacas will ease you into meditation.

Classes begin at 8:30 am and run until approximately 9:45 am. Please arrive by 8:20 am and be sure to bring your own yoga mat and towel. Yoga classes are only $20 and registration takes place online.

B-29 “FIFI” at the Warplane Heritage Museum

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is proud to host a piece of history. FIFI, a Boeing B-29 super fortress, will be at the museum this weekend for all aviation lovers to take a tour inside.

This four-engine propeller driven heavy bomber was flown primarily by the United States during World War II and the Korean War. This type of plane is most well known for carrying out the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Only two B-29s remain flying today.

You can take a tour inside FIFI between 12 – 5 pm at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. Admission is $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 6-15.

Canada’s Largest Ribfest

Canada’s Largest Ribfest is proudly organized by the Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore. Since their first festival in 1996, all event proceeds go to charity.

The event is jam-packed with family-friendly fun, including musical entertainment, an artisan fair, activities for the kids and, of course, mouth-watering ribs.

Ribfest is open from 11 am to 11 pm and takes place at Spencer Smith Park. Admission is free but make sure to bring your wallet to pick up some delicious eats!

Risky Business 80s Night

Grew up in the 1980s and miss dancing to the music? The Casbah is hosting the perfect 80’s night to help you relive those memories.

At Risky Business, DJ Mark and DJ D Murk will be spinning your favourite throwbacks. Remember to put on those dancing shoes and bust out the moonwalk!

Risky Business takes place at The Casbah. Doors open at 10 pm and cover is only $5. This is a 19+ event.

Sunday

Ward 4 Fun Fair

Hamilton East Campus presents the annual Ward 4 Fun Fair. Celebrate with residents from across Ward 4 as they come together to celebrate diversity and develop community pride.

At the fair, there will be picnic games, local entertainment and community booths that offer local services and employment.

The Ward 4 Fun Fair takes place at Montgomery Park. The fair runs from 1 – 5 pm and is free to attend. All ages are welcome!

Greyhound Meet & Greet

Have you ever wanted to meet a Greyhound? Come on down to My Dog’s Cafe & Bar this Sunday to see the sweetest group of retired racing Greyhounds you’ll ever met.

Members of the Greyhound Lovers of Hamilton-Wentworth (GLOHW) group will be there with their dogs to answer all of your questions about the breed. After meeting these dogs, you’ll understand why The Simpsons love Santa’s Little Helper so much.

The meet and greet runs from 10 am to 1 pm. The event is free, but make sure you grab a beverage or a bite to eat from the café.

Historic Garden Tours

Visit Dundurn Castle this weekend to enjoy stories and historic gardening knowledge conveyed by the Castle’s costumed garden staff.

Running from 2 – 3 pm, the tour will teach visitors what it was like for Dundurn’s Kitchen Garden staff to cater to the MacNab family 150 years ago.

This event takes place at Dundurn Castle and is open to all ages. The garden tour is free, but admission rates will apply if you wish to visit the museum.

Mac DeMarco at the RBG

Independent Canadian label Royal Mountain Records is putting on quite the all-label festival this Sunday.

This single day, all ages event will feature a headlining performance from Mac DeMarco, followed by Finn Wolfhard-led Calpurnia, U.S. Girls, Ought, Dizzy, TUNS, Little Junior and Everett Bird.

The show takes place at Royal Botanical Gardens at the Raspberry Farm. Tickets are $63.60 and are available online. This is an all-ages event.
