Ziplining may come to Binbrook

The best way to get outside and connect with nature is through participating in new, exciting activities. Over the last year, Hamilton has worked on creating various different outdoor experiences that will get residents off the couch and back outside.

Their latest idea could get Hamiltonians high in the sky and soaring through the treetops. Yup, Ziplining may be coming to Binbrook.

The proposed Zip Line Adventure Park will be built at the Binbrook Conservation Area. Operated by Treetop Trekking, the park will include seven different aerial courses. An estimated 60 platforms will be attached to existing trees, with all platforms ranging from one to six metres in height.

The Adventure Park will also feature a picnic and staging area, as well as a supervised children’s zone. The children’s zone, dubbed the Treewalk Village, will have eight treehouse structures, net bridges, slides, tunnels and mini Zip Lines.

The creation of Zip Line Adventure Park doesn’t come without problems. For the park to be built, approximately 100 trees will need to be cut down. It’s important to note that 31 of the 100 trees are already dead.

To make up for the loss of nature, the proponent is expected to plant 100 native trees and 48 shrubs.

If the park is built, it will operate between April 1 and October 31 each year. It’s of upmost importance that everyone who visits the park respects their surroundings — many different animals call Binbrook Conservation Area their home.
