Newfoundland inspired diner closes its doors in Hamilton

A Hamilton diner known for its Newfoundland-inspired food and flair has sadly announced its closure.

Stage Diner first opened its doors in spring 2020 at 518 Concession Street on the Hamilton Mountain, where it became known for its diner-style comfort food like breakfast plates, BLT sandwiches, fish & chips, roast beef dinners, and more.

Some of the menu took its inspiration from Newfie flavours and traditions, including the Touton Burger, which saw touton buns stacked with classic burger toppings and fried bologna; or the favourite Newfie Fries loaded with gravy and dressing.

Sadly, Stage Diner owner Darryl Howe took to Facebook on Friday afternoon to share word that the Concession Street restaurant has been sold and is saying goodbye.

“[It] is now time for a new restaurant to go in and to take over,” wrote Howe on social media.

“From the bottom of my heart, we are humbled to have known such great people to have supported us over the past 4 ½ years.”

Stage Diner is the latest in a number of recent closures on Concession Street, including Stoneroads Bar & Grill, Crumbuns Bakeshop, Lady Glaze Doughnuts, and Candi Werx
